How the Indoor airPLUS® certification process works
- ENERGY STAR® certification
Every Indoor airPLUS® home must first qualify for ENERGY STAR® v3.2.
- Indoor airPLUS® checklist
A certified HERS Rater completes the official Indoor airPLUS® checklist, covering over 80 points related to air quality, ventilation, and materials.
- Air and moisture testing
On-site measurements verify air tightness, ventilation flow rates, and humidity control.
- Report submission (MESA)
The Rater submits results to EPA’s MESA system for review and registration.
- Final documentation
AThe homeowner receives:
- the Indoor airPLUS® certificate,
- the official EPA label for the electrical panel,
- a letter of appreciation from the EPA.
